Wood & Resin Guide

Every Onyx Resin piece is built around two materials: a solid hardwood slab and hand-poured resin. Both can be tailored to your taste. Here's a closer look at what's available.

Wood options

Three wooden slabs of different type (poplar, olive, walnut) on a concrete surface

Left to right: Poplar, Olive, Walnut

Walnut

A deep, warm brown hardwood with strong grain patterns and natural figure. Walnut is one of the most popular choices for custom furniture, prized for the way it ages over time. Works with almost any resin color, especially blues, blacks, and clears.

Olive

A light, golden hardwood with dramatic grain and unique knots. Olive wood has a Mediterranean character, with figure that varies dramatically slab to slab. Pairs beautifully with whites, ambers, and translucent resins.

Poplar

A light, figured hardwood with dramatic grain variation. Poplar burl in particular shows wild patterns that make every slab unique. Pairs especially well with deep blues, blacks, and metallic resin pours.

Resin colors

We pour any color you can imagine, in either matte or glossy finish.

  • Blues: Ocean blue, deep navy, turquoise, cobalt, metallic blue
  • Greens: Emerald, sea green, forest, turquoise green
  • Neutrals: Solid white, smoke gray, deep black, glossy black
  • Warm tones: Amber, deep red, crimson, burnt orange

Special effects

We can add depth to any pour with special effects:

  • Wave detail (subdued or pronounced)
  • Metallic shimmer
  • Glow-in-the-dark phosphorus (charges in daylight, glows at night)
  • Embedded objects (shells, stones, dried flowers, custom items)

Durability and care

All our woods are kiln-dried and stabilized before any pour, so movement and cracking are minimized. The resin is cast-grade and fully sealed for daily use.

To keep your piece in its best condition, always use coasters and trivets under hot items, avoid placing hot pans, mugs, or kettles directly on the surface, and keep the piece out of prolonged direct sunlight. Re-oil the exposed wood once a year with a food-safe finishing oil to maintain the grain and finish.
